Liturgical Ministers

Liturgical Ministers

We invite all parishioners to consider becoming a Liturgical Minister and play a vital role in enhancing our worship experience. Liturgical Ministers are essential in helping our Masses and other liturgies run smoothly, creating a meaningful and reverent environment for all who gather. Whether you're called to proclaim the Word, assist with the Eucharist, or offer your talents in song or service, your involvement makes a difference in the spiritual life of our community. Below is an overview of the various Liturgical Minister roles and how each one contributes to the sacred celebration of our faith.

  1. Lector
The lector is responsible for reading the Scriptures during the Mass. This includes reading the Old and New Testament readings, and in some cases, leading the Psalm response. The lector plays a key role in bringing the Word of God to the congregation.
  2. Eucharistic Minister of Holy Communion
Eucharistic Ministers assist the priest in distributing the Body and Blood of Christ during Mass. They ensure that the faithful receive the Eucharist in a reverent and timely manner. These ministers are selected and trained to handle the sacred responsibility of distributing Communion.
  3. Altar Server
Altar servers assist the priest during Mass by performing a variety of tasks, such as carrying the processional cross, holding the sacramental items (like the chalice and ciborium), and assisting with the preparation of the altar. Altar servers help maintain the flow of the Mass and contribute to its reverence.
  4. Ministers of Hospitality
Ushers welcome and guide parishioners as they enter and leave the church, helping them find seats. They also assist with taking up the collection and ensuring that the liturgical space remains orderly and reverent. Ushers play an essential role in fostering an inviting atmosphere for all attendees.
  5. Sacristan
The sacristan is responsible for preparing the church for Mass by ensuring that all liturgical items (such as the altar linens, candles, chalices, and vestments) are properly set up and maintained. The sacristan ensures that everything is ready for the celebration of the liturgy and cleans up afterward.
  6. Procession and Other Roles
Other roles in the liturgy may include those involved in the procession (e.g., those carrying the Book of Gospels or the processional cross), as well as special ministers during sacramental celebrations such as baptisms, confirmations, and weddings.
